Day 1: Kampala-Kibale national Park
From Kampala to Kibale is 358km and 7hr drive. Begin this trip very early in the morning from Kampala city heading westwards past Mityana arriving at noon in Fort Portal for lunch. Catch a glimpse of the Toro Kingdom palace, the Royal tombs the mosque, many shops and eating-places but continue to Kibale, just a few kilometers ahead. On arrival in Fort Portal, check in at Kyaninga lodge or Primates Lodge.
Kibale national park has the highest concentration of primates in Africa including chimps, black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys and baboons. Go for an afternoon primate walk to Kanyanchu river camp, the most popular walk in the park. It highlights a miscellany of flora and fauna within the forest. Day 2: chimp tracking and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth NP
After morning breakfast, wake up early to track chimps but first assemble at Kanyanchu park headquarters for briefing. Then proceed into this primate capital of the world in search for the chimps.This can take you half a day. There are primates in the area like the red tailed monkey, L’Hoest monkey, baboons, white and black colobus monkeys, grey checked mangabey, red colobus, blue monkeys and pottos.
Other animals involve forest elephants unique from the common type, giant forest hogs and a striking tree species. Later take a guided nature walk to Bigodi swamp sanctuary, a good site for birders. The Great Blue Turaco and Papyrus Gonolek can easily be marked among the other bird 137 species. There is also an array of butterfly species. transfer in the evening to Queen Elizabeth NP for dinner and overnight at Mweya safari Lodge/Enganzi lodge / Queen Elizabeth bush lodge(Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner & Breakfast)
Day 3: Queen Elizabeth national park
After an early breakfast,take a game drive in the Kasenyi plains, which will lead you to see, bush buck, Uganda Kob, topi, Defassa waterbuck, and Cape buffaloes as well as some carnivores like lions, leopard, jackal as they return from the night hunt.
A range of birds like Cassin’s grey flycatcher, broad billed roller, black bee-eater along the banks of Lake Edward. This can take you 2-3 hrs. In the afternoon, go for a launch cruise on Kazinga channel that connects lakes; George and Edward, come eye-eye with yawning hippos, crocodiles, leopards though sporadic. Watch birds for birders with over 600 resident species like flamingos, red chest, papyrus Gonolek, pink backed pelicans, malachite kingfishers, yellow crown, pink backed pelicans, water thick-knee, yellow-billed stork, shoebill stock. Do not forget your camera. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi
This morning take your breakfast and transfer via Ishasha, the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth national park, for viewing tree climbing lions. Arrive in Bwindi in the afternoon for a community walk to the Pygmies. Enjoy an interface with the Pygmy community as they play traditional dance for you. Retire at Gorilla Forest Camp / Mohogany Springs/ Silverback Bwindi lodge for your dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
Enjoy gorilla trekking this morning and in the afternoon transfer to Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale. This serpentine shaped lake is fine for swimming and is bilharzia-free. The lake is the 2nd deepest on the continent is scenic doted with several islands. It also overlooks the beautiful Kigezi highlands. The lake has many islands such as Bushara and Bwama islands. You can do a canoe trip, the islands are good for birding and richly endowed with small birds as the name Bunyonyi suggests. It’s a good place for relaxation and taking photos of western Uganda. Stay overnight in Arcadia Cottages/ Bunyonyi Overland Camp (meal Plan: Half Board).
Day 6: Kampala
After taking breakfast, leave Kabale and depart for Kampala which will mark the end of this trip. En route lunch in Mbarara affords you a chance to explore the Ankole culture at Igongo cultural center as well as a chance to see the AD 1520 eclipse monument on Biharwe hill. You will then proceed with a mini-stop at the Equator for photography and arrive in Kampala / Entebbe in the evening for your departure flight if on schedule.
