The park boasts of a total of 95 mammal species, the highest for any Ugandan national park; 10 primate species resident in this park include chimpanzees, L’Hoest, vervet, blue, red-tailed,black-and-white colobus monkeys and olive baboon; 20 predators including side-striped jackal, lions, leopards, and spotted hyena; Defassa waterbuck, bushbuck, topi, Uganda kob and the elusive sitatunga; other common animals in the park include buffaloes, hippos, elephants and warthogs among others.

610 bird species have been recorded in QENP, possibly the highest total for any national park in the world and a truly remarkable figure for a reserve that is relatively small by continental standards. Mweya stands out for the myriad waterbirds along the Kazinga Channel. Dinner and an overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge/Institute of Ecology (FB)

Later you will have a guided visit to the Katwe explosion craters. Here you will spot Kitagata Lake and the enormous Kamengo Crater encountering more mammals at these spots. Return to your lodge for lunch before an afternoon launch cruise along the Kazinga Channel – a prime spot for wildlife sightings including Hippopotamuses, Waterbucks, Crocodiles and a variety of Water Birds like the black bee- eater, several species of falcons and the raptors. Dinner and overnight stay at Mweya safari lodge

Day 3: Ishasha Tree Climbing Lions – Bwindi National Park

A total of 350 bird species have been recorded in Bwindi National Park, which is relatively a high figure since the park lacks waterbirds. Of special interest to birders are 23 species endemic to the Albertine Rift, and at least 14 species found nowhere else in Uganda, including the African Green Broadbill, Brown-necked Parrot, Frazer’s eagle owl, white-tailed blue flycatcher and white-bellied robin chat.
