Why you should go for a Uganda safari holiday after Covid-19 lockdown

With international travel restricted worldwide due to the spread of Covid-19, curious travelers have been left highly frustrated by the lack of movement to their desired destinations. After seeing the devastating economic effects resulting from Covid-19 lockdown across the world, many countries have opted to ease some of the measures in order to allow economic activities to take place. Unfortunately, tourism activities around the world are still under lockdown with countries still cautious not to open up airports for foreign visitors since it may accelerate the spread of Covid-19 in their countries.

However, on a positive note for travelers, there are a few countries that have opened their airports for tourists though with strict measures that visitors have to adhere to in order to reach their tourist destinations and enjoy their experiences. These include Kenya and Rwanda who opened up airports for foreign visitors including tourists at the beginning of August.

For Uganda, preparations are already underway and government is finishing plans on the appropriate measures to be put in place that will safeguard tourists and those who will get touch with them during their safaris as well as the animals to be visited.

For the meantime, let’s continue our preparations for the thrilling Uganda tour with great expectations and here are some of the key experiences that you should consider adding to your Uganda safari bucket list with Africa Adventure Safaris

Gorilla trekking

Perhaps the best wildlife experiences in Uganda, gorilla trekking has in recent years emerged as travelers’ favorite with majority of them visiting the Pearl of Africa opting for it. Uganda hosts more than half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas in her two gorilla parks of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. mountain gorillas are endangered with their global population currently at around 1,063 individuals and they are only found in only 3 countries in the world including Rwanda and DR Congo. The magical hour that travelers spend in front of these great gentle giants fully rewards all the costs and the hustle they undertake to reach them with many going back describing the experience as the best in the wild.

Chimpanzee tracking

The experience of tracking chimpanzees in Uganda is so amazing especially at Kibale Forest National Park which is referred to as the “primates’ capital of the world.” Unlike gorillas which are rarely seen even in their habitat, chimps exist in large numbers and commonly seen playing and going about their business almost everywhere in their habitat. Both chimps and gorillas share about 98% of the human DNA and expect to see some breathtaking human-like behavior exhibited by these intelligent primates in front of you.

game viewing

Uganda is one of the best game viewing destinations on the African continent with over 400 mammal species including the famous “Africa big five” in over 10 game reserves across the country. Some of the common big game in Ugandan parks include lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino, giraffe and zebra. Others include antelopes, warthog, waterbeest, bushbuck, hippo, among others.

bird watching

Uganda is also the ideal destination for bird watchers with over 1,000 species of birds found within her national parks and these include Albertine Rift endemics like the famous Rwenzori Turaco. Some of the best places for bird viewing in Uganda include Queen Elizabeth National Park which has over 600 bird species, Semuliki National Park and at Kibale Forest National Park.

source of the Nile experience

The source of the Nile, the longest river in the world is at Jinja along the northern shores of Lake Victoria, the second largest fresh water lake in the world. Some of the breathtaking water experiences at the source of the Nile include white-water rafting, kayaking, bungee jumping and boat cruise.

mountain climbing

For adventurous travelers and hikers, climbing to the snow caped top of Mount Rwenzori is one of the most exciting and challenging experiences in Uganda. Mount Rwenzori is the third-highest mountain in Africa with its Margarita peak standing at 5,109 meters above sea level.

cultural and historical tours

Cultural tours in Uganda are very exciting which include visiting some of the extraordinary tribes in the country like the Batwa in the Southwest near the gorilla home of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and the Karamojong near Kidepo Valley National Park. Historical tours in Uganda include visiting the Kasubi tombs in Kampala where Buganda kings are buried, and Uganda Martyrs shrines at Namugongo where the Uganda martyrs who were executed by Kabaka Mwanga for their Christian faith were buried, among others.
