Day 1: Jinja Tour

Depart Kampala and drive to Jinja. It is in Jinja where we will stumble on the source of the River Nile, the longest river in Africa. On your to Jinja there are quite exciting things to check out. Stopover at Mabira forest where you will encounter diurnal primates like red-tailed has 300 tree species and a big bird community of over 300 species of which you can spot some birds like Nahan’s francolin. Red-tailed monkeys and the elusive black and white colobus are also common. After proceed to our main destination Jinja. Jinja is located at northern end and east bank of Lake Victoria. Everything in Jinja is connected to the river like electricity production, brewing and the shops on the main street. Finally we get to water rafting, the best activity. Shooting the rapids is described as an ‘adrenaline-pumping experience’ and not for the faint hearted; its tremendous fun but for the physically demanding. Spend the entire day challenging the steep rapids of the Nile. Stay overnight in Nile Resort Hotel/ Sunset Hotel.

Day 2: Mbale – Sasa Camp

Connect to Mbale that is nearby then to Mount Elgon national park. Check in at the park headquarters. Drive to trails head at the Budadiri park headquarters to embark on a 4-hour hike walking through slopes of montane and bamboo vegetation that will lead you to Sasa River Camp (2,300m). Stay overnight at Sasa River Camp.

Day 3: Sasa Camp – Mudde Cave Camp

Eat in the morning and proceed by ascending through landscape of extraordinary moorland vegetation. As you ascend, you will notice change in the weather and vegetation and altitude until you reach the Mudde Cave (3,900m). This takes about three hrs. Stay overnight at Mudde Cave Campsite.

Day 4: Mudde – Wagagai peak

Eat in the morning and proceed to the highest peak on Mt. Elgon called Wagagai (4,321m). This peak offers magnificent views of extraordinary high altitude vegetation and the Jackson summit. Cease the moment and capture many photos as possible. Stay overnight at Mudde Camp Site. This takes four hours.

Day 5: Mudde – Hunter’s Cave Camp

On this day, you will trek from Mudde Cave to the Caldera and the hot springs, a journey of three hours. From the caldera, continue to Hunter’s Cave Camp, a three-hour trek. Overnight at Hunter’s Cave Camp.

Day 5: Hunter’s Cave Camp – Tatum Cave.

For those who are more daring and still energetic, proceed to the legendary Tatum Cave. This takes three hrs. There are ancient cave paintings. Stay overnight at Tatum Cave Camp.

Day 6: Tatum Cave – Sipi Caves

Return to the Park headquarters from Tatum cave (4 hours). Transfer to Kapchwora, Sipi Falls and take a walk to the caves on the opposite side of the falls. These lovely falls will take away your breath and the Sipi River that flows rapidly down at a steep 50-metre (160 foot) cliff. Relax off your body after the long hike. Stay overnight at the Sipi Rest camp/Sipi river Lodge.

Day 7: Nyero Rock paintings

We offer you something to more relaxing and freshening. If you are not so worn out, consider taking a short tour to the mysterious Nyero Rock Paintings, one of the best finest rock paintings in the country showing fossil evidence. It is just 2 hours from Mbale town. Uganda’s early human residents created them. Stay overnight at Mbale Resort Hotel.

Day 8: Back to Kampala

Enjoy breakfast at leisure and return to Kampala bringing you to the end of this trip.
