Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls
Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park starting in Kampala via Bombo road which should take you about 5 hours. On your way, you will see the legendary Luwero triangle, today which has turned out into a small town with a trading center known for its agonizing history of the Baganda massacre. Continue and branch off at Masindi Hotel for lunch. You will pass through Budongo forest and Kaniyo Pabidi arriving at the Top of the falls – such a pretty site for relaxing and adventure. Day 2: Game Drives and Launch Cruise
Go for an early game view drive on the North of the Nile. Lions, buffaloes, waterbuck, Jackson’s hartebeest, oribi and baboons are some of the animals you will spot. In the afternoon a launch cruise to the bottom of the fallson is a fantastic wildlife experience itself. Spot schools of hippos, large crocodiles, small herds of buffalo. There’s rich birdlife on the papyrus banks, watch out for the shoebill stork, the most sought after bird in Africa. Go to the Top of the falls; such a lovely scene for viewing the fall, park as well taking lunch or relaxing. Overnight stay at Paraa Safari Lodge / Pakuba Lodge (FB)
Day 3: Chimp trekking in Budongo forest
Rise up early, after breakfast go fort a 3-5 hrs trekking in Budongo forest. Budongo forest is also known for its exclusive Mahogany tree species, so tall and unhampered. There are also several primates like the red-tailed monkeys, blue monkey, and potto and forest galago species and bird species such as the yellow-footed eye catcher, white-thighed hornbill. Stay an overnight at Budongo Eco Lodge / Masindi Hotel (FB)
Day 4: Semliki National Park
Depart for Semliki all the way down to Bundibugyo. Sit back and enjoy this scenic drive as you will see Lake Albert and Mt. Rwenzori ranges. The park is found in Bundibugyo district western border of Uganda and Congo Republic next to Lake Albert. The park has a strategic location in the western Albertine rift valley region of Uganda and takes up the eastern part of the Ituri forest joining Uganda and Congo River separated by the Semliki River. Semliki is an ornithologist’s haven having about 400 bird species mostly forest birds. There are 300 tree species recorded nowhere else in East Africa and 53 mammal species with 11 diurnal species. During the night go for a spot lit night game drive, only one of its kind in Uganda and check out the slender and white- tailed mongoose, serval cats and diminutive nightjars. Day 5: “Sempaya hot springs”
Go check out the most attractive item in Semliki, called the Sempaya hot springs. These are natural springs with a geyser shooting up from an 8m-wide hole at a hot temperature. It’s the largest of its kind in the country. Along the same trail, you can recognize quite a number of bird species like blue –breasted kingfisher and Frasier’s ant-thrush and primates like the grey-checked mangabey and red-tailed monkey. Continue to Mungilo waterfall to check out more interesting birds especially if you are a birder. Late afternoon go for a boat trip on Lake Albert, a unique lake in its own right. Check out the water animals and return to Semliki Safari Lodge for overnight.
Day 6: Kibale Forest National Park
After breakfast transfer to Fort Portal and visit the King’s Palace, the stalagmites and crater lakes. In the afternoon retire to your lodge for lunch and later go for a guided nature walk to Bigodi swamp sanctuary, a good site for birders. The Great Blue Turaco and Papyrus Gonolek can easily be marked among the other bird 137 species. There is also an array of butterfly species. It highlights a miscellany of flora and fauna within the forest. Dine and sleep at Primates Lodge / Ndali Lodge / Chimps Nest Lodge (FB)
Day 7: Chimp Tracking and Departure
After morning breakfast, wake up early to track chimpanzees near Kanyanchu information centre and trekking can last for half a day. There are primates in the area like the golden monkey, L’Hoest monkey, baboons, white and black Colobus monkeys, grey cheeked mangabey, red Colobus, blue monkeys and pottos. Other animals involve forest elephants unique from the common type, giant forest hogs and a striking tree species. Later drive back to arriving in the evening for your onward transfer to airport for your scheduled flight.
