Detailed Itinerary – 2 Days Lake Mburo Tour

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Lake Mburo-Game Viewing
Depart for Lake Mburo national park from Kampala heading west along Masaka-Mbarara road. Lake Mburo is named after one of two brothers who once lived in this place who drowned in a flood as a result of being stubborn despite his constant warnings. Lake Mburo though small has a lot to offer such as the Lake itself among other 14 crater lakes, offers excellent game viewing as there are different antelope species like, sitatunga antelope, the impalas for which Kampala is named after. Elands, klipspringers, Defassa waterbuck, the common duiker, Burchell’s zebra, warthogs, buffalos, oribi and Bohor reedbuck are some of the wild animals to lookout for.  As you do a game drive through the park along the lakeside track and Kigambira loop you will be able to see most of these animals. Stay overnight at Rwonyo Camp (budget)/ Mantana tented Camp (luxury)

Day 2: Boat trip on Lake Mburo/ salt lick
After taking breakfast, enjoy a boat trip on Lake Mburo and get a chance the beautiful scenery as well as seeing the other beautiful crater lakes like Lake Kigambwa. There are hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks and bushbucks to admire. Not forgetting to mention, there are water birds to check out such as African kingfisher, Narina trogon among others.  In the afternoon go to the viewing platform and witness different animals coming to lick salt. If you are a committed birder, walk along the Rwizi trail that leads to Rubanga forest, an interesting site to birders mostly as it offers excellent birding.  Lookout for mosque swallow, bare-faced go-away, and Ruppell’s long-tailed starling.  Return to Kampala.
