Activities offered by Pakuba Safari Lodge

Game drives

Game drives are one of the main activities from Pakuba. The lodge’s northern location provides relatively direct access to several wildlife tracks. Visitors may see elephants, buffaloes, Rothschild’s giraffes, Uganda kobs and Jackson’s hartebeests. Lions can also be found in the northern sector. Leopard sightings are possible but less predictable. Morning drives usually begin early. Afternoon drives provide another chance to explore the park.

Nile boat cruise

Guests can arrange a boat trip along the Nile. The cruise towards the falls passes areas where hippos and crocodiles are common. Elephants and buffaloes often come close to the river to drink. The boat also provides a good setting for observing water birds.

Nile Delta boat trip

A boat trip towards the Nile Delta offers a different river experience. The Victoria Nile enters Lake Albert through the delta. The area contains wetlands and supports many bird species. The activity is especially useful for travellers interested in bird watching.

Visit to the Top of the Falls

Guests can include the Top of the Falls in their safari programme. A short walk around the viewpoints provides views of the Nile as it passes through the gorge. The activity can be combined with a game drive depending on the day’s schedule.

Bird watching

Bird watching is available around the lodge and inside the park. The river, woodland and savannah provide different habitats for bird species. Visitors can use guides to identify species and understand their habitats. Some of the birds include Shoebill Stork, Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, Goliath Heron, Red-throated and Northern Carmine Bee-eaters and Grey Crowned Crane

Nature walks

Guided nature walks can be arranged in suitable areas. The walks focus on plants, tracks, insects and smaller animals. Walking gives visitors a closer look at parts of the ecosystem that are easy to miss during vehicle safaris.

Community and conservation

Pakuba’s tourism activities depend on the protection of Murchison Falls National Park. Local employment and tourism-related services provide economic links between the park and surrounding communities.

Visitors can support the local economy by using authorised community activities and buying locally made crafts. Responsible behaviour also matters. Guests should avoid littering and maintain the required distance from wildlife.
