Activities offered by Nile Safari Lodge

Boat cruise

Boat trips along the Nile are among the main activities available from the lodge. The boat travels towards the base of Murchison Falls. During the trip, visitors can watch hippos, crocodiles and birds along the river. Elephants and buffaloes may also be seen close to the water.

Game drives

Game drives explore the savannah areas of Murchison Falls National Park. Visitors travel with a guide who searches for wildlife along established tracks. The northern sector is especially known for giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs and lions. A game drive requires crossing the Nile, so visitors should allow enough time for the ferry.

Visit to the Top of Murchison Falls

The Top of the Falls can be visited during a park excursion. Visitors walk around designated viewpoints to observe the Nile as it moves through the narrow gorge. The visit is usually combined with a game drive or a separate park excursion.

Nature walks

Guided nature walks can be arranged around the lodge and suitable areas. These walks focus on plants, birds and smaller wildlife. The papyrus and riverine vegetation provide a different setting from the park’s open savannah.

Bird watching

Nile Safari Lodge is suitable for bird watching because of its location beside the river and papyrus. Visitors can observe birds around the lodge before or after their main safari activities. The guide can also arrange birding excursions within the park. Bird species that can be spotted include Shoebill Stork, Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, Goliath Heron, Red-throated and Northern Carmine Bee-eaters and Grey Crowned Crane

Wildlife viewing from the lodge

The river setting allows guests to spend time observing wildlife without taking a full game drive. Hippos and crocodiles may be visible around the river. Birds also move through the papyrus and trees around the property. Guests should observe wildlife from designated safe areas rather than approaching animals.
