Mihingo Lodge is a luxury safari lodge located beside Lake Mburo National Park. The lodge operates on privately owned land next to the park. It has 12 tented rooms built on wooden platforms and raised structures. Mihingo Lodge lies on a rocky outcrop overlooking the savannah around Lake Mburo. The surrounding landscape includes open grassland, wetlands, rocky hills and woodland. Some lodge rooms face the park, while others are positioned near forest or water areas. Mihingo is particularly known for combining traditional safari accommodation with activities such as horse riding, mountain biking, walking and wildlife drives.
Accommodation

Mihingo has 12 tented rooms. Each room is built on a wooden platform and covered by a thatched roof. The tents have en-suite bathrooms with showers, hot and cold running water and flush toilets. The rooms are spread across different parts of the property. Some overlook the park, while others sit near the forest, rocks or waterhole. Each room has its own outdoor space where guests can sit and observe the surrounding area.
Facilities and dining
The main dining area is built from local stone, dead olive wood and natural materials found on the property. The restaurant serves meals to lodge guests, including local and international dishes. The lodge also has a swimming pool overlooking the valley. Other facilities include a bar, lounge areas and guest activity areas. The lodge’s raised design and use of local materials reduce the need for large permanent structures across the property.
Activities offered by Mihingo Lodge
Horse riding safari

Horse riding is one of Mihingo’s main activities. Guests ride with trained guides through areas around Lake Mburo. The horses allow visitors to move quietly through the landscape. This can allow riders to approach some wildlife more quietly than vehicles. The rides vary in length and difficulty. Beginners can receive guidance before setting off, while experienced riders can choose longer routes.
Mountain biking
Mihingo also offers mountain biking around the Lake Mburo area. Visitors ride along tracks through the countryside and near the park. Guides accompany riders and select routes according to fitness and conditions. The activity gives travellers a way to explore areas that may not be covered during a normal game drive.
Game drives
Game drives are conducted in Lake Mburo National Park. Visitors travel in safari vehicles with guides who look for animals along the park tracks. Zebra, impala, buffalo, waterbuck, eland and warthog are among the species found in the area. Night drives can also be arranged allowing visitors to search for nocturnal wildlife.
Walking safaris
Walking safaris are conducted with trained guides or rangers. Visitors walk through suitable areas while learning about animal tracks, plants, insects and smaller wildlife. The guide also explains how to behave when encountering wildlife. Walking provides a different view of the ecosystem because visitors move at a slower pace.
Boat trips
Boat trips take place on Lake Mburo. Visitors travel along the lake while looking for hippos, crocodiles and water birds. The guide explains the animals and habitats around the lake.
Cultural visits
Mihingo can arrange visits to nearby communities. These may include visits to local schools and cultural sites. Visitors learn about local livelihoods and the relationship between communities and Lake Mburo National Park.
Community and conservation
Mihingo is a family-owned lodge with a focus on conservation and the surrounding community. Its activities are designed around the Lake Mburo ecosystem rather than only vehicle-based safaris. The lodge also uses its privately owned land as part of the accommodation and wildlife setting.
Its environmental approach includes using local materials and keeping the tented rooms separate across the rocky landscape.
