Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
In the morning our company guide will pick you from your hotel and transfer you to the northern sector of Bwindi impenetrable rain forest for gorilla tracking. The beautiful scenery referred to as the “Switzerland of Africa” will be a big spectacle as you traverse the vast countryside.
Arrive early enough in either Ruhija or Buhoma in preparation for gorilla trekking the next morning. This evening, a community walk to the Pygmies (Batwa) may lighten your safari. Attend the traditional dance and songs from these “Aborigines” of Uganda who left the forest recently following Uganda Wildlife Authority’s move to boost the conservation of the mountain gorilla in this natural forest. Stay an overnight at Gorilla Forest Camp or Mahogany Springs/ Buhoma community campsite.
Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi
Get up early at 6:00 and report to the Park headquarters with your packed lunch for briefing by the senior park ranger guide. You will then set out to track the gentle giants through thick vegetation as you hike up and down slippery slopes. Be vigilant to listen to their vocal communications and follow them until you finally come eye-eye with them. An hour with them is a guarantee as you observe and learn their habits while taking photos.
It is an extraordinary feeling, sitting in the dense rainforest knowing you are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas. If you have the energy this afternoon, take a guided walk on the Munyaga River trail, which entails crystal clear waterfalls, a variety of flora, butterfly species and an array of birds. This is a haven for primatologists and ornithologists. The other option is taking a guided community walk among the Batwa inhabitants of the park. Return to Buhoma Community Bandas (budget)/ Gorilla Resort (luxury) FB.
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park
After breakfast drive via Ishasha – the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth national park in quest for the rare tree climbing lions
whilst not avoiding sights of antelopes like kobs, gazelles, and bush bucks among others. Arrive for lunch at Mweya lodge and at in the afternoon a boat will be ready to set off for a 2 hours boat cruise along the Kazinga channel connecting lakes George and Edward which will reward you with close range views of crocodiles, hippos, buffalos, elephants and a variety of birds like pelicans, African skimmer, African fish eagle and the shoe bill if lucky. Overnight stay at Enganzi lodge or kyambura game lodge.
Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking/ Game drive and Transfer to Kampala
This morning, you may choose between chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura gorge or a game drive following the Kasenyi trail in search for lions and other predators as well as a variety of game including topis, giraffes, kobs, warthogs, buffalos among the park’s 100 mammal species.
