After close to 19 years of non-operating, the along awaited Uganda airlines finally revives to operation. Uganda airlines finally revive! There was too much excitement at Entebbe international airport on 24th April 2019 when Uganda’s warmly received the first two jetliners of Bombardier CRJ900S carrying the Uganda flag. Uganda airlines confirmed that two remaining Bombardier CRJ900S would be received in July and September this year and these will be flying across the regional routes on the continent. Uganda further expects other two airbuses A330-800 Neos scheduled to launch long haul flights in December 2020 and January 2021. The two will operate direct flights from far away cities like London, Amsterdam and Guangzhou offering serving travelers with safe and comfortable travels.
Why Celebrations?
Having been down for over 20 years, the renewal of Uganda airlines is a great achievement, which puts an end to long waiting since 2001. In other words, there will be no more stopovers in cities like Kigali, Nairobi and Addis Ababa before proceeding to Uganda unlike before. The revived airlines will open direct routes from major tourism source markets enabling travelers to fly direct to Uganda without hindrances and unnecessary stopovers.
What is expected?
The revival of Uganda national carrier will obviously help to promote tourism in the Pearl of Africa by enhancing direct flight routes to Uganda for tourists. Despite the initial inconveniences associated with various stopovers, Uganda has seen a rise in the number of tourists over time. In 2019, Uganda received a total of 1.7 million travelers an increase from 1.4 million travelers that had been received 2014. The revival of Uganda airlines will undeniably shoot the number of travelers high out competing for the neighboring tourism destination.
Also, traffic at Entebbe International airport will rise with no doubt. The airport currently has the traffic of over 1.8 million passengers a rise from 1 million passengers in 2014, which is a great achievement. Also, Uganda airline will create new job opportunities for Uganda’s. These will work as air hostesses and pilots among others earning them an income reducing on unemployment levels in the pearl of Africa. Traveling with Uganda airline s will also reduce the money spent on other countries. Ugandans will now use Uganda airlines, which will keep all our money within Uganda’s economy. No more foreign exchange expenditure through travel by foreign airlines. It was realized that Ugandans spent USD 400 annually in travel, which has kept Uganda’s economy lagging behind.
